I dont think that i'll reach my 50 book goal this year mainly due to my 10 prac and shorter holidays but i will try to read the same amount as last year, so here goes...
1. The Subtle Knife - Philip Pullman
Pretty awesome book, and trilogy (so far) actually. I like Will as he gave me a break from Lyra, not that I don't like her but she can be a little annoying. He seems like a genuinely nice kid who just wants to do what is right and help his mum. The whole idea of this knife is pretty cool too, the fact that it can cut into different universes etc but I guess I shall have to wait to see what its real purpose actually is. I was sad to see Lee die but he went down with a bang so I guess it wasn't too bad. Though it was a little disturbing to read Iorek Byrinson eat his body...I think the friendship that Will and Lyra have is so cute and that they should get married and have babies lol....when the are older than 12 of course.

The plot did grab me at first but I felt my attention waning with a lot of the story being centred on politics in England during the 1980?s. My ignorance on the matter meant that some parts of the story were lost on me. I did however enjoy the sub-plot of drugs amongst the upper-class, but felt some characters weren't fully developed or their situations resolved (e.g. Catherine). I never really felt anything for the main character (Nic) nor did i really care what happened to him. I still don't know why he put up with the Fedden's for so long considering that I'm sure he knew them to be fastidious snobs who saw him as a novelty rather than part of the family. I didn't like his relationship with Wani and thought it to be very superficial even though Nic did help care for him when he was dying of AIDS...but Wani was extremely rich so i wouldn't be surprised if Nic didn't show the same care to a poorer boyfrind of his like Leon who he lost touch with after they broke up.

*************SPOILER******************
Leslie do not read beyond this point!
*****************************************
After reading 'Atonement' and 'On Chesil Beach' i was really pumped to read Enduring Love so i went and bought it and began almost straight away. It was a little different to what i originally expected but very action and drama packed right from the beginning so i was sucked into the story straight away. I really enjoyed it except for the ending which i found a little odd...what with Joe's hippy friends and the fact that Clarissa care mroe about her work than Joe who was obviously being stalked by this lunatic. i just found it odd that nobody was listening to Joe. The ending didn't really offer any answer and you had to read the prolgue and sort of guess what happened.
My brother is getting the DVD for me for Christmas and going by some YouTube clips they have changed a few things but i'm sure it will still be good.

i enjoyed reading this book probably because it was pretty much exactly like the film, or i should say the film was pretty much exactly like the book. This is good in a way because i liked the film and thought it was funny, but bad because it was a little boring to read as i could have just gone and watched the movie....which would have saved me a few hours.
I don't know...i think the film was more about Hugh Grant whilst the book was more about Marcus which i think i preferred depsit sexy hugh grant.

I’ve realised that I do less reading when I’m on holidays than when I have uni and work. I think it’s because I get up later and watch more tv and spend more time on the net, but at around lunch time everyday I think “mmmm I might read a bit after lunch” but then a stupid tv show comes on like ‘My Sweet 1 6’ and unbeknownst to myself I actually sit there and watch these spoilt girls chuck tantrums over their hair or the fact that their dad only bought them the $40, 000 car opposed to the $65, 0000 car. The hours pass by but I still think to myself “oh I’ve got all day”. There is this other show on MTV too called ‘Life of Ryan’ which is about this 17 yr old who is apparently a really good skater and the show just circles around the ‘drama’ in his life…girls and his skating basically. It just makes me think that they can make a tv show out of anything. We don‘t really even need soapies because these reality shows have just as much drama in them. Anyway, I want to hurry up and finish reading ‘About a boy’ not because I don’t like it but I really shouldn’t have watched the movie then started to read the book within a week. The book is very similar to the movie so it’s like watching it again, just at a much slower pace. I really want to start reading ‘T he Line of Beauty’ because the abc are running ads for it saying it airs in summer. It’s quite a long book too so I better get a move on…500 pages, but not 500 Harry Potter pages.

I did do a review on my other user so yeah...it was pretty ordinary...2/5
I was just watching Entertainment Tonight, well as much as I could bear anyway…I drew the line at the news story covering some dog that Ellen gave away…“Where’s Iggy Now?!” Goodness me some of these shows are retarded…only is America I guess. Though I can’t really talk seeing how today I did buy a trashy magazine…I’ve actually never bought one is Australia and I don’t know why I did today but it was a pretty good one…’52 Shock Pics- Celeb Ugly Days’ lol, and it had a bit about Daniel Radcliffe’s rumoured girlfriend…who’s 22 mind you…God I’m 21…could have had a younger woman!
I was going to buy a film mag because it had something like a 18 page spread all about Harry Potter, but I just couldn’t justify paying $16.95, like seriously it’s a magazine…I could buy a book for that. So instead I put a bid on a signed pic of Daniel Radcliffe from ‘Equus’, so yes he does have his shirt off. Work rang me up today but I was in Liverpool so that would mean I would have to get a bus and taxi back home to change than get another taxi to work (all because I cant drive lol) Normally I would have gone into work because I did tell them I was available this week, but they didn’t actually put me on the roster so I’m not just going to sit at home all day just in case they call me up…either put me on or don’t.

I finished this last night and I don’t know how I feel about it yet…as was the case with ‘Atonement’. Ian McEwan tends to leave me with mixed emotions. It was a very well-written book and has recently been short listed for the Man Booker Prize 2007, so it is not the way it is written that I am dealing with. It’s more so the characters…I just think that they could have tried harder and that they didn’t behave in a very mature way…I suppose that is the point really…they both thought that they were very mature, but really they weren’t. And Edward’s life after Florence was pretty depressing…I can’t believe he never looked her up or anything….or that she didn’t do the same…surely even though that day was a disaster they could have worked something out.

hmmm this book took a while to get into,. what with all of the technical terms and what not, but i'm glad i stuck with it. I think i would appreciate it more if i were to re-read it and i will later on but i have to re-read Deathly Hallows again because i like to have it fresh in my head. I'll have to pick up the other Fforde books soon, but im reading Ian MxEwan's novel Chesil Beach or something and it's different yet interesting... darenothopei think you will like it because the main female character is a really big prude, lol

21. Northanger Abbey- Jane Austen
**************SPOILER*****************
I just finsihed this one the 'sarvo and i think i still need to digest it...but i will say it is different to S & S and P & P in that not a great deal actually happens. It takes till the second volume for the reader to actually here a mention of a place called 'Northanger Abbey' and the time spent there by Catherine doesnt seem that exciting. I will say that i liked Henry and didn't mind Catherine (even if she was a little stupid), but i would have liked to know a little more about Elanor or James or any of Catherine's family.
And what a tart Isobella turned out to be! I have to admit that i never really liked her; she seemed so fickle....and talked too much.

20. 'Equus' -Peter Shaffer
Well, I'd be lying if i said i would still have read this play if Daniel Radcliffe wasn't in the broadway production of it. In saying that i'm glad i did read it because it was pretty interesting...odd, but interesting. I think i read in the introduction that Shaffer based the play on an article he read about a boy who did in fact injure several horses. Having now read it i so wisht hat i could have seen the production of it and i'm shocked that there isn't more sneaky footage of it on youtube! Perhaps i can hire the movie version...though looking on imdb the actor who played allan has gone to seed a bit...dam it daniel make a movie version!!!

19. 'Atonement' - Ian McEwan = awesomeness
Perhaps i was just starved for a good book after reading the 'Twlight' Series....that's not being fair, i did enjoy them but there is a limit to how much of Bella's whinging i can handle. I can't wait for the movie to come out, all that i ask is that they dont turn it into a 'I-heart- Keira Knightly' fest, because really it isn't about her as such. yes she is one of the main characters but only part of the book is from her perspective...hmmm it willbe interesting to see how they bring the book onto the screne considering it unfolds from the perspectives of 4 characters and spans over 60 years.
i wont go on again about how much i loved it because i already have at

i dont know what it is about her books that makes me keep on reading htem....it's probably Edward. They're not that good, and i hate all but 2 characters (Edward and Alice). o h should do a spoiler warning for 'darenothope'....SPOILER....there you go.
Once again all of the action happens in the last 150 pages, which at first doesn't sound too bad but considering the book is 628 pages long, it's quite annoying. I still don't like Bella and never will because she is a whinging bitch who over-reacts to stupid situations and under-reacts in life-threatening ones. And if i have to read one more line from Jacob Black going on about how he is in love with Bella and she would be happier with him, i think i will have to punch somebody. Like she would be happier with a bunch of warewolf dogs instead of hot vampires who never die...seriously...chose much?
I give this mush to Stephenie Meyer...she knows how to drag on a story...these three books could have been condensed into one. It's not like each book has it's own plot...no she just drags the same story out over 3 books, and by the end of the 3 books we still are not closer to seeing Bella being transformed into a vampire or her getting married to Edward. Seriously, the bloody victoria plot line has strecthed over all 3 books...they should have just killed the bitch in the first book and moved on!
anyway, i;m glad that it's over even though i do find myself enjoying reading it...just for Edward. I;ve moved onto 'Atonement' and am really enjoying it! At first i thought i would reccommend it to my granny to read...that was because Robbie accidently sent the wrong letter to Ceceila....and the follwing scene in the library...maybe she can just watch the movie or something....i;m looking forward to the movie coming out with my fav actor Keira Knightley playing Ceceila.....she better not ruin it for me

Well where do I begin? I have a tendency of not liking the main characters of books I like. ‘Twilight’ and ‘new Moon’ by Stephenie Meyer are no exception. I don’t know exactly what I hate about Bella, perhaps it’s because I find the fact that after only about 6 months of knowing Edward (not going out with him but only knowing ‘of him’) she was willing to leave her parents and become undead…like seriously I know Edward is hot and it would be cool to be a vampire but les than 6 months, and she’s still only in high school for goodness sakes. It’s such a high school romance book marketed at girls because no guy would read about a moaning whinging bitch (which is what bella is) I also don’t get why all the guys in Firkes like her….like back in phoenix or wherever she’s from she didn’t seem to attract a lot of attention, but all of a sudden all the guys in school think she’s hot and the hottest vampire in the neighbourhood falls in love with her…gay. From this it sounds as though I don’t like the books, which isn’t true…I do enjoy reading it but just not the main character. However, I will be in full support of a film version…esp if Robert Pattinson plays Edward as he is the only person hot enough for the role (in my opinion). Though that wouldn’t work because he’s engish and the book is American which I find very annoying because in my head I am continuously thinking that there are spelling mistakes, lol.
Well 'Eclipse' is sitting on my bookshelf just waiting to be read, but i should really read 'Remembering Babylon' by Malouf because he is giving a guest lecture in 2 weeks, but it is so boring! I wonder if there is sparknotes on it....doubt it, nobody cares about Australian authors...not even me.

My eyes are so sore; I look like a crackwhore junkie desperate for a hit. I must have conjunctivitis or something because they are really red and painful…but that doesn’t matter. I was just looking over this guy’s lj (dr_mindbender) from uni and I’m not normally a violent person but is it wrong to wish death upon someone? I’ve hated him for the better part of this year and I can honestly say that he is the only person I have ever genuinely hated. I really shouldn’t look on his journal because it just makes me hate him more. He just shits on about how poor he is (or so he says) and how everything is a struggle for him at uni, like fees etc…hasn’t he heard of HECS? And anyone who doesn’t live in St Mary’s or Mt Druit must have a trust fund from their parents and all drive BMW’s to uni…like seriously he is one of those people who isn’t even poor yet fucking whinges about it when there are people far worse off than him at uni. He also thinks that he alone is the sole academic at uni and he tries to start these Jacobean poetry groups to prove how smart he is, but nobody turns up which actually pleases him more because then he can continue his bitch fit about how everyone else is so dumb. What else do I hate about him….oh how he is so anti my Harry Potter Appreciation Society… I can accept that people don’t like Harry Potter but no he cant just keep his anti-harry sentiments to himself, he has to verbally attack me through lj with his nonsensical arguments which inevitably end up with him whinging about how Harry Potter abuses and rapes indigenous cultures like his mum’s. He’s just a fucking wanker who I cant believe is one day going to be a teacher…thank God I’ll never have to teach with him because he’ll probably want to go and teach in some low-socioeconomic public school in the country…good riddance…tool.

Well I’ve finished it! And I did actually enjoy reading it, despite it centreing around two heorin junkies and their struggle with addiction. At first I was very unsympathetic towards them as it was their choice to start using heroin so why should I feel bad for them? However, as the story progressed I did find myself sympathising with their pathetic lives as they tried to get off the drugs. I enjoyed it more than the movie because when I was reading it I had these vivid images in my mind about how they would look with all of their scarred arms and their palid fragile frames. However, in the movie I didn’t think that Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish looked druggie enough…like I’ve seenw orse walkingaround Liverpool (probably not a good thing)

12. Wuthering Heights- Emily Bronte ******************************************************************************************************** slight SPOILER …not really but it’s for Leslie because she may want to read it some time in the near distance future…. ******************************************************************************************************** Hmmmm well at least I can say that I have read it….what is with Heathcliff? Talk about hold a grudge…but I did like it more than ‘Jane Eyre’ which was just odd. I want to watch the BBC version but the Heathcliff doesn’t look like I imagined him so I don’t know…so fussy. We need really need a new version of it, there is a 2003 modern American adaptation but I’ll check out BBC first. I’m just trying to think of who would play a good Heathcliff? Maybe if Hugh Jackman grew his hair and dyed it black…perhaps he’s too hot. Who could pull off a person characterised as a passionate, dark, brooding and vindictive man? Mmmm Colin, but no he is Darcy and can only be Darcy; Heathcliff is evil, Darcy is hot. Just on the net and there is supposedly a new version with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie…there’s one way to murder a story .. Johnny Depp…pfft thinks he’s so hot; he is like the last person I’d say would be a Heathcliff…so pussy.
